It’s been almost a year since our last release and a couple of months since we shared a preview of this, our next release by Magnofon. It is the artist’s second album with us and is worth the wait, as we’ve decided to press a special limited edition run of 50 retro vinyl-effect CD copies.

You can stream the album in full and purchase a CD or download now from Bandcamp, or grab from Junodownload and also Amazon, iTunes, eMusic. You can also stream the album on Spotify

Coming back to Warehouse Decay with his second album, we welcome the return of Magnofon and this set of 10 Funk and Jazz sample-drenched Deep House cuts.
After quite a while since our last release, we’ve decided to press our first limited edition CD in a run of just 50 copies, complete with a free digital version for every purchase.

Smallroom Breaks‘ was created at a time when Harry Towell began to collect Jazz and Funk influenced vinyl in preparation for a possible new night in a coffee shop. At that time, he was building a library of cut-up vinyl samples: guitar licks, searing strings, rhodes keys, funk breaks and brass stabs – not to mention drinking an unhealthy amount of espresso. After months of experimentation it turned out that the gig never materialised due to the room being deemed too small. Thus, Smallroom Breaks was born…

Harry continued to build and develop his library of recordings and was arranging them into a collection of seriously slow Deep House cuts influenced by the likes of Moomin, Max Graef and Theo Parrish.
With both Magnofon’s studio sound and DJ work being heavily influenced by vinyl, we decided to press this to black vinyl-style CDs complete with gloss-white sleeves and stunning monochrome artwork by Milan Očenáš.

Boxed Wax 001: Magnofon

March 18, 2015

Boxed Wax 001 Magnofon
We thought we’d do a new feature on WDR called ‘Boxed Wax‘ which will basically be a series of occasional Youtube playlists compiled by our artists. This will include their favourite records of the moment – records in their box, favourites and classics.

We kick off Boxed Wax with Magnofon’s selections ahead of his forthcoming WDR album ‘Smallroom Breaks‘. Magnofon’s taste in music is renowned for being particularly eclectic and his playlist is certainly testament to this, with seriously deep and moody slow house, jackin’ garage influenced sounds, Tech House and woozy jazzy stuff. There’s plenty to listen to – click on the image above to be directed to the Youtube playlist page then hit the shuffle button and let the beats play…

Magnofon new profile

It seems like forever since we released a record so we’ve decided to get something special out the door. Coming soon, we welcome the return of Magnofon with his sophomore album ‘Smallroom Breaks‘, a record which is heavily influenced by vinyl, double espresso and small music venues. With layer upon layer of jazz and funk samples, vintage 909 beats and warm rhodes and a highly limited edition run of 50 vinyl-style CDs we’re proud to present this beautiful package, coming soon… For now, we present you a 10 minute preview of the album:

WDS #5 image

Our next long-overdue Warehouse Decay Session comes courtesy of label bosses Harry Towell and Fraser McGowan as their new recording alias Quiet Birds. The duo both come from an Ambient music background with Harry releasing as Spheruleus and Fraser working under his Caught In The Wake Forever. They formed Quiet Birds through a mutual love of experimental Techno and are slowly working on their début release.

In the meantime, they have sat down and compiled a list of some of their favourite records past and present which will loosely reflect their collaborative output as Quiet Birds. Things start off subtle and abstract with Ezekiel Honig and Mind Over MIDI, passing through the jazz influences of DoubtingThomas and Thomas Hildebrand before moving towards a tougher Tech House sound with tracks from Mihai Popoviciu and Junior Gee. The mix leans more and more towards Techno as things progress with Shifted and our own Tom Mosler and Hoxiun making an appearance.

WDR promo mix

Regular readers and follows of our label will have noticed continued support from Mark Ryan‘s Amazing Beats show on Amazing Radio ever since we began back in 2013. Mark has regularly selected tracks from our releases since day one and included them in his shows, with a particular fondness for the work of Fau, Dokun and Magnofon.

Last week we knocked up a 30 minute promo mix and sent it over to him and straight away he put it on Friday’s show! It was banging out across the net and on DAB in London and Dublin less than 48 hours after we sent it – so fast that we didn’t get much chance to spread the word.

The good news is that the show has been archived and is available to listen to again by click HERE and at the time of writing it will be the most recent show. If you’re visiting and a Friday has passed since, then you should be able to catching it by hitting ‘More Shows’ and selecting Friday 1st of August. It will be archived for the next few weeks.

Alternatively, you can check the promo mix out aside from the radio environment by clicking the image above or HERE. We have uploaded the mix to Amazing Tunes where it can either be streamed or download for free…

The mix includes some material from our back catalog from artists such as USRNM, Magnofon, TwelveTen and Louper as well as some unreleased works. One such is a track from the forthcoming Recall EP from Tom Mosler which will drop this Wednesday 6th of August. We’ve also thrown forward a piece from an EP we’re working on behind the scenes – this is by German artist Christian Hoche who also records as Ajott. As you’ll hear for yourself this promises to be something very special indeed!

Magnofon GS

Magnofon has laid his taste for Deep House and Techno completely bare today as Grounding Sounds post a two part vinyl-only mix he did of his favourite ever records within the genres. It rakes over the last 25 years as Harry casts a nostalgic glance to his early DJing days. It features tracks by Moodymann, Miguel Migs, Joey Youngman, Omar S and Larry Heard to name but a few…
